Day #377: From last evening Mike beat me at cribbage. Mike and I were up at 5:45 A.M. for breakfast of coffee, grapefruit, a cookie and a pecan butter tart. After breakfast the two of us prepared the boat for departure. At 7:30 A.M. the boat was prepared and we were pacing so the two of us decided to get underway heading to TSW (Trent-Severn Waterway) Lock 1. Beautiful sunny and clear morning with a temperature of 54 degrees. We arrived at TSW Lock 1 8:00 A.M. where we tied to the "blue line" a place on the lock wall were boats can tie up while boats can wait at the lock. The bumpers needed to be very low to the water line as the water is so high that most of the blue line wall was underwater. Mike and I got the boat secure Mike found a snail, there was one fisherman fishing on the blue line and construction next to the lock that kept the two of us entertained. "Knight's Kingdom" (Jim and Justine) was the next boat to leave the marina so "Parrot Bay" and "Knight's Kingdom" locked through together. At 9:05 A.M. both boats were in TSW Lock 1. At 9:20 A.M. both boats were clear of TSW Lock 1 (Trenton) after being raised 17.6 feet (#63 lock for the trip). At 9:45 A.M. both boats clear of TSW Lock 2 (Sidney) after being raised 20 feet (#64 lock for the trip). At 11:00 A.M. clear of TSW Lock 3 (Glen Miller) after being raised 27 feet (#65 lock for the trip) after waiting an hour for 2 down bound boats. At 11:20 A.M. both boats clear of TSW Lock 4 (Batawa) after being raised 18 feet (#66 lock for the trip). At 11:45 A.M. both boats clear of TSW Lock 5 (Trent) (#67 lock for the trip) after being raised 18 feet. At 12:15 P.M. both boats clear and secure of TSW Lock 6 (Frankford) after being raised 18 feet (#68 lock for the trip). All of the locks have cables that a dockline is wrapped around to secure the boat. I would put a line around a bow cable and Mike would put a dockline around a cable at the stern. The lockmaster was great about coming to the lock wall to help secure both "Parrot Bay" and "Knight's Kingdom" to the tie up on the wall after traveling 8.3 miles (4,655 miles total for the trip). After lunch the two of us found out that there were fraudulent charges on our credit card so our cards had been shut down. The two of us spent better part of the early afternoon trying to get a new credit card sent to a marina in Canada (which is no easy feat). There were 20 + boats that moved today so the spaces on the Frankford wall were full mid-afternoon 8 boats with 7 boats that kept going onto other locks and multiple boats that stopped short of Frankford. Mid-afternoon I received a message from Kelly on "INNTW" they were heading towards TSW Lock 6 planning to dock below Lock 6. Mike and I had happy hour on "Knight's Kingdom" who are also from Michigan. At 6:00 P.M. "INNTW", "Knight's Kingdom" and "Parrot Bay" (all Michigan boats) decided to head to dinner at Dimitri's Pizzeria and Restaurant in Frankford. A great time was had by all. After dinner it was time for Mike and I to have phone call night with family. The plan is to progress tomorrow to Campbellford.
Entering the Gateway to the Trent Severn Waterway!
Most of the locks on the TSW have a set of lock doors that need to be manually opened. The lockmaster for Lock 1 is opening the lock gate on one side...…..
