Day: #351: From last evening Mike beat me at cribbage. Mike and I were up at 4:30 A.M. to prepare for departure. There was fog so the two of us decided to have lemon bread, coffee and watch local news before leaving. The engines were started at 6:35 A.M. Gina from "Alysana" came to help "Parrot Bay" to get off the dock and at 6:40 A.M. we were underway. At 7:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was at Hoffman Island with light fog that was thinning at ground level. At 8:00 A.M. "Parrot Bay" went under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, there was upper level fog and the top portion of the bridge towers could not be seen in the haze. At 8:45 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was off of Battery Park, past the Staten Island Ferries and Lady Liberty. "Parrot Bay" passed "John J. Harvey" a retired fire boat at 9:05 A.M. as the rain began to fall. At 9:20 A.M. passed the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. At 9:40 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed the Riverside Church. At 10:00 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed under the George Washington Bridge. "Parrot Bay" passed by the Henry Hudson Bridge over Harlem River at 10:10 A.M. At 11:10 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was passed by the USCG boat "Sturgeon Bay". At 11:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed under the Tappan Zee Bridge. "Parrot Bay" at Half Moon Bay Marina at 1:40 P.M. in Croton-On Hudson after traveling 53.7 miles (4,240 miles total for the trip). After getting the boat settled Mike and I headed to The Tavern at Croton Landing to have lunch where we had a great meal. The two of us then headed to the Apple Farm, a cute grocery store with lots of fruits and vegetables. We also went in the CVS that was next door for a few items which was good as it started to rain. The rain had let up before the two of us headed back to the marina. After returning Mike worked on navigation for the next few days and I worked on overheads of the marinas. The plan for the two of us is to head to Kingston, NY for Thursday and Friday (I had to book two marinas in Kingston) then the two of us will head to New Baltimore, NY for the weekend. "Parrot Bay" will start the Erie Canal next week.
PARROT BAY'S GREAT LOOP ADVENTURE 2: The Great Loop is a 5,500 mile trip will include the Great Lakes (Lake Huron and Lake Michigan Shore), Illinois River, Mississippi River, Ohio River, Tenn-Tom Waterway to Mobile, wintering in Florida, Atlantic Intercostal Waterway in the Spring, Hudson River, Erie Canal, Lake Ontario, Canadian Canals (Trent-Severn), Georgian Bay/North Channel returning to Bay City approximately August 2019.
