Day #350: Mike and I were up at 4:00 A.M. to prepare for departure at 5:00 A.M. At 5:00 A.M. there was discussion with multiple boats regarding leaving heading to New York as there were reports of an increase in the winds with high seas and fog. The decision was made to wait until 5:20 A.M. for those boats that were going to leave. At 5:25 A.M. engines were started "Alysana", "Kailani" and "Parrot Bay" decided to leave together all heading outside into the Atlantic ocean, bound for Staten Island, a 10 3/4 hour run. All three boats left at 5:30 A.M. There was fog near the coast that was lifting and the sea state at the Absecon Inlet was perfect. At 5:50 A.M. all three boats turned north with seas of 2 feet of less with a long period which made for a comfortable ride. "Kailani" passed "Parrot Bay" as they can run faster but "Alysana" was 1/2 miles behind "Parrot Bay". At 7:00 A.M. the group saw a small amount of sunshine. At 9:00 A.M. there was dolphins near the Barnegat Inlet. At 9:45 A.M. there was haze/fog with visibility of less than 1/2 miles. "Parrot Bay" passed the dredge "B.E. Lindhulm" in the fog with Mike using the Kahlenberg air horn letting the boats know that we were out in the fog but the horn quit, I found the blown breaker and fixed the horn at 10:30 A.M. At 10:40 A.M. the fog was thinning Mike and I could see "Alysana" 1/2 miles back. At 11:00 A.M. fog continuing to thin with increased visibility of approximately 1 1/2 miles. At 11:40 A.M. the fog filled in again with approximately 3/4 mile visibility. "Parrot Bay" passed the shrimping boat "Shadowfax" in the fog at 11:50 A.M. For lunch Mike and I had ham sandwiches on the flying bridge. Severe thunderstorm warning for Atlantic Highland heading toward "Parrot Bay" and "Alysana" with rain starting at 2:30 P.M. At 3:00 P.M. "Parrot Bay" and "Alysana" experiencing heavy rain and occasional thunder. "Parrot Bay" crossed the New Jersey/New York state line at 3:20 P.M. with the rain starting to abate. At 3:30 P.M. "Parrot Bay" passed the Old Orchard Shoal Light which is a pile of rubble left over from when Hurricane Sandy demolished the light. At 3:40 P.M. "Parrot Bay" passed the Great Kills Light. At 4:00 P.M. "Parrot Bay" was secure at Great Kills Yacht Club with the help of Jim C. the harbor host after a 97.3 miles traveled today (4,186 miles total for the trip). At 5:30 P.M.
