Grafton Harbor in Grafton, IL
Day #80: From last evening Mike and I played two games of cribbage, I won both games. We had rain around 4 A.M. it is still humid but the temperature is more comfortable that it has been no more 90 degree heat. The temperatures are actually suppose to drop today and we are suppose to see temperatures this week with highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's. Mike worked on paperwork while I started 3 loads of laundry here at the marina. Mike worked on our air conditioner (a wind scoop for when we are anchored). I called the Paducah, KY City dock making reservations for October 3rd for one night. I also made reservations at Green Turtle Bay on the Cumberland River in Grand Rivers, KY for October 4th until October 11th. Mike and I were getting a bit nervous as we watched 10 boats come into Grafton Harbor last evening so we wanted to make sure that we had a seat at the table for the next couple of weeks. I called Bev from "Baytripper" to let her know about the reservations that I had made for the next couple of weeks and she is going to call and make their reservations as well. Bev told me that they had severe storms in Minnesota, they do not have power and the yard is a mess. She stated that it could have been much worse but they have one more thing to deal with while they are home. They have an airport near them that sustained major damage. Starting to look ahead to places to stay in Demopolis, AL to Mobile Bay. AL. The one piece of news that we heard today is that Alton Marina has low water depths and that boats are getting stuck going in and maneuvering around the marina (yup we have had flood warnings here in Grafton since we got here now 1 1/2 hours away the water depths are low-always something). Mike and I walked to the fish market but all they had was shrimp, buffalo and catfish. We had asked if they had anything smoked but were told that they sold out yesterday and would not have more smoked fish until next weekend. This is the first time that Mike has been without smoked whitefish for as long as we can remember. We walked down to the Grafton Market for a few items. We bought brats for dinner this evening. We went to the pool for a couple of hours. When the sun would come out it would get very hot and humid but for the most part there was cloud cover that kept the temperatures down. Jan the owner of the marina told us to join them for a celebration as they just opened up a marina sales office here at Grafton Harbor. We headed back to the boat for dinner aboard of brats and beans. Quiet time on the boat for the rest of the evening.

This sign was on the fish market. The Great Mississippi and Missouri Rivers Flood 1993 occurred in the American Midwest, along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers and their tributaries from May to October 1993. The flood was among the most costly and devastating to ever occur in the United States, with 15 billion in damages. |
Here in Grafton they take Halloween very seriously. This bar is already decorated.
