Day #381: From last evening I beat Mike at cribbage. At 5:00 A.M. Mike and I were up at 5:00 A.M. to prepare for departure. Gina and John on "Alysana" were up as well. At 5:35 A.M. both boats were underway. Beautiful morning clear, sunny, warm with a breeze. At 5:45 A.M. there was a low swing bridge that was no longer a working bridge but until you were very close to the bridge could you see the opening to pass through the bridge structure. "Parrot Bay" transited Rice Lake which was beautiful with lots of cottages. The breeze had kicked up giving "Parrot Bay" less than 1 foot waves but starting increase a bit. At 7:45 A.M. "Parrot Bay" transited out of Rice Lake as the winds increased to 10-15 miles per hour with some chop. There were 8 jet skis that passed "Alysana" and "Parrot Bay" multiple times coming very close to the boats (Gina and John named them the "Canadian Navy"). At 10:25 A.M. the jet ski's raced by both boats heading toward TSW Lock 19. The lock doors started to open Mike called the lockmaster to find out who was going to enter the lock first which the lockmaster informed Mike that the two boats were going to enter the lock first followed by the jet skis. At 10:50 A.M. the eight jet skis, "Parrot Bay" (#81 lock for the trip) and "Alysana" were clear of TSW Lock 19 after being raised 8 feet. The jet skis headed off while "Parrot Bay" and "Alysana" headed toward the marina. Peterborough Marina hailed Mike on the radio informing him that the 8 jet skis were at the fuel dock that he needed to wait out in the lake as the dockhands were all tied up pumping fuel. At 11:15 A.M. "Parrot Bay" progressed to her slip very tight squeeze in the slip with "Tiki Queen" (another looper boat) the dock hand stood on "Tiki Queen" to fend off if "Parrot Bay" got to close. Mike did a great job maneuvering into the slip but there wasn't much room between the two boats. "Parrot Bay" traveled 39 miles today (4,740 miles total for the trip). At 11:45 A.M. Gina, John, Mike and I headed to the Light House Lounge and Grill for lunch they were soon joined by "Yes Dear" and Mary from "Forever Friday". The looper boats kept coming into the marina so I decided that I would do laundry. Mike and I received a phone call from the credit union that our credit cards would be delivered to Peterborough Marina on Monday before 3 P.M. I called the credit union letting them know that we would no longer be at the marina. Luckily UPS had not picked up the mail so change in plans we will get our credit cards when we get home. I was able to completed two loads of laundry. The two of us headed up to the flying bridge as that is where it was the coolest as it was 84 degrees with a feel like temperature of 95 degrees with a "Heat Warning". The loopers continued to come into the marina. Mike and I met Lee on "Tiki Queen" who was very nice. Mike and I enjoyed the breeze while reading on the flying bridge. Finally it was time for showers and blogging. The plan is for Mike and I to stay in Peterborough until Monday.
Coming up on the old swing bridge the opening is very hard to see. |
