Day #364: Mike and I were up at 5:30 A.M. to prepare for departure. I looked at the radar and saw rain advancing toward Utica, NY. We're going to get wet! At 6:15 A.M. Engines started and at 6:25 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was away from the dock. At 7:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was clear of lock E-20 after being raised 16 feet (#52 lock for the trip). At 7:42 A.M. the rain started so I looked at the radar and figured it should be done raining before the next lock. At 8:00 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed Dredge "HD-7" that was actively dredging and had most of the channel occupied. The captain told Mike to stay as close to the dredge as possible as he had cables out to the shore. A few miles from the next lock the rain stopped so that is when I went out to grab lines the sun was starting to peak out. At 10:00 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was clear of lock E-21 after be dropped 25 feet this is the first lock that "Parrot Bay" was lowered on the Erie Canal (#53 lock for the trip). At 10:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was clear of lock E-22 after being lowered 25 feet (#54 lock for the trip). All three locks today "Parrot Bay" was the only boat in the lock and lines were easy to grab and the ride was smooth. At 11:00 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was secure at Mariner's Landing that was bought out by Snug Harbour Marina. While Mike and I were getting the boat secure they met Eric and Sharon who had come to pump out their black water tank and afterward they were heading out starting their Great Loop today. Mike and I also had Dave and Stacey from "Stinkpot" slowly drive by as they were heading to Brewerton, NY today. At 1:00 P.M. the two of walked into Sylvan Beach which has an amusement park on the shore. The sun came out and it was 82 degrees and humid. The two of us headed back to the boat heading to the flying bridge to catch a breeze. I started working on making reservations in Kingston, Ontario for Friday. I had to do the reservation on-line then wait to hear back. At 3:00 P.M. the two of us listened to a webinar on Cruising Georgian Bay that was put on by the AGLCA. The speaker was a marina general manager from the Georgian Bay area. Both Mike and I enjoyed the presentation. The two of us headed up to the flying bridge to catch another breeze. It was then time for the two of us to blog and read for the evening. The plan for Mike and I on Wednesday to cross Lake Oneida getting the Brewerton, NY.
Lock E-20 Mike and I had to wait for the lock to be turned over. The water is flowing out so that "Parrot Bay" could be raised 16 feet. |
