Homer-Smith Marina in Beaufort, North Carolina to River Dunes Harbor Club & Marina in Oriental, North Carolina

Day #324: From last evening I beat Mike at cribbage. The two of us were up at 5:00 A.M. to prepare for departure. Beautiful morning clear, no wind with temperatures in the low 70's. The engines were started at 5:40 A.M. with we underway at 5:50 A.M. Mike and I were both bundled up as it was cool up on the flying bridge. At 7:40 A.M. as "Parrot Bay" came around a bend there was a tug/barge "Pamlico" coming towards "Parrot Bay".  There was plenty of water for two boats to pass each other. Just prior to the Neuse River we saw dolphins jumping out of the water and coming toward the "Parrot Bay". At 8:20 A.M. "Parrot Bay" entered the Neuse River which is wide open and exposed to the winds but today the winds were light with waves 1 foot or less making for a beautiful ride. As Mike and I started to transit the Neuse River there were hundreds of jellyfish then all of a sudden there were none. At 9:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" turned off the Neuse River into Broad Creek. At 10:00 A.M. Mike hailed River Dunes Marina for a slip assignment. At 10:10 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was secure in her slip after traveling 33.5 miles for the day (3,558.5 miles total for the trip). Mike and I signed up for two nights at the marina for now but we are keeping an eye on the winds as they are suppose to increase for the next few days. we toured the facilities at River Dunes which are beautiful,  There is a pool, hot tubs, multiple large showers, restaurant and small store on site. At 11:00 A.M. the two of us went to Yawl's Café for lunch.  I had a shrimp salad sandwich and Mike had a roast beef sandwich. The two of us walked through the Grace Harbor Provision Company, a small store at the marina.  The two of us didn't need anything but walked through to check it out. The temperatures were in the mid-80's so the two of us headed to the pool where we cooled off in the pool and read books. The clouds moved in which was not a bad thing for Mike and I because it was hot when the sun was out. At 4:00 P.M. we headed back the boat for happy hour on the flying bridge where there was a cool breeze. After happy hour it was time for blogging and Mike played the guitar.

Beautiful sunrise over the Newport River.

I was the first to see this as Mike and I transited this part of the river.

This is what is left of the "Miss Melissa" a fishing boat that sunk.

Mike and I saw numerous colorful homes today as they headed toward the Neuse River.

Here was a pretty blue home with orange trim.

This skeleton was fishing near the blue home. You just never know what you are going to see when you are traveling on the loop.

Here is the peach home with the dark pink trim and seahorse.

"Pamlico" coming around the corner.

Mike and I have been extremely lucky that boats like this one have done a "slow pass" when they are coming up from behind and passing the "Parrot Bay". We always thinking about our friend Jan as she would say that this boat has "evil windows" those windows on the side of the boat near the water.

As "Parrot Bay" entered the Broad River heading toward the marina there were beautiful homes along the canal.

Another home along the canal heading toward River Dunes Club & Marina.

Grace Harbor Provision Company.

A café that serves breakfast and lunch on the grounds of River Dunes Club & Marina.

Mike and my view at the pool overlooking the river and pine trees just beautiful.

Cabanas available at the pool with ceiling fans.

Poolside fireplace.

Impatient plants poolside the butterflies were loving it.
