Cocoa Village Marina in Cocoa, FL

THE SPACE COAST

Day #283: From last evening Mike beat me are cribbage. Mike and I were up at 6:15 A.M. to get ready for a trip to the Kennedy Space Center Following showers it was time for coffee, grapefruit, lemon poppy seed muffins and cookies. At 8:50 A.M. Mike from "Dash Away", Laurie and Kevin from "Laurie Jean", Laurie and Peter from "Myra-Marie" and Mike/I from "Parrot Bay" called two Uber cars to pick them up and head to Kennedy Space Center. It was a 30 minute ride to the space center so once the group all arrived we headed into the complex. The group first watched at 45 minutes 3D movie "Journey to Space". After watching the movie the group decided to do the bus tour.  It gave our group a glance of the working spaceflight center and drive-by of a the launch pads and Vehicle Assembly Building. After the drive-by the group was dropped off at the Apollo/Saturn V Center where they experienced a briefing from space expert on Kennedy Space Center, recent and upcoming NASA activities and more. Our group took the shuttle back to the complex to get lunch. Mike, Mike and myself ate from the Orbit Café while Laurie, Laurie, Kevin and Peter ate from the Red Rock Grill. The group ate lunch together once all of the food had been obtained. After lunch the group headed to Space Shuttle Atlantis. The group was going to do the Shuttle Launch Experience where they would have been strapped in for the sights, sounds and excitement of a space shuttle launch. Unfortunately, the Shuttle Launch Experience was broke so no one was able to experience this exhibit (I was saved 😏 ). The group then headed to the Forever Remembers exhibit commemorating the loss of the Challenger and Columbia. After all headed to The Space Shop where Mike from "Parrot Bay" bought a book. The group decided that it was time to call Uber to get a ride back to the marina. After returning Mike and I headed up to the flying bridge for happy hour as it was much cooler on the flying bridge. The two had leftovers on board. After dinner it was time for reading and blogging.

Launch countdown clock just inside of the Kennedy Space Center.

"For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the plants beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace-John F. Kennedy."

The wand had to be used as Mike hadn't taken everything out of his pockets.

Rocket Garden

The group watched a great 3D movie on Journey to Space.

Orion is the exploration vehicle that will carry the crew to space, provide emergency escape, if needed, sustain the crew during the space travel, then provide safe return from deep space. It is the platform for planned exploration to Mars.

The group headed to the bus tour.
