Kingfisher Marina in Demopolis, Alabama

Day #125: Up at 6:20 A.M. for coffee, pumpkin bread and mini cinnamon rolls. Showers taken. Mike and I signed up for a shuttle to take us shopping and lunch in Demopolis. Our next day on the water is going to be challenging as we have 70 mile day with one lock. There are no marinas and very limited places to anchor prior to Bashi Creek anchorage. Mike has extensively reviewed the all of the guidebooks and charts finding only small places to pull over on the river if needed. The weather is suppose to thunderstorms tonight possibly severe in the morning about the time we would be calling the lock. There is rain predicated for Wednesday through Friday. There is a possibility that there will be 8+ boats leaving Kingfisher/Demopolis Yacht Basin which means that there may not be enough room in the Bashi Creek anchorage. I have called Bobby's Fish Camp which is one of the icons on the trip that we feel we really need to stop at on the trip. It is a wall where boats tie up there is power but what usually happens is that there are more boats than there is room so boats raft sometimes 4 deep to get everyone in. The restaurant that is popular for their catfish is only open Thursday through Sunday so we are not sure that we will be eating at Bobby's. They have been known to open the restaurant when there are looper boats tied up. I called Dog River Marina in Mobile letting them know that at this time we would be arriving on Friday (not Thursday as originally planned). At 10:00 A.M. we met "Sea Trolley", "Lark" and "Optimystique" as we had all signed up to take the shuttle into Demopolis. "Sea Trolley", "Lark", Mike and I went to the old downtown Demopolis while "Optimystique" went to Walmart. What we found in downtown Demopolis was that not many stores are in business as the downtown is pretty desolate and that if there were stores most of them are closed on Mondays. "Optimystique" soon joined back up with us so we walked around checking out historic places in Demopolis. At noon all eight of us went to lunch at Stacy's Café.  We had a great lunch. After lunch we called Cynthia who was driving the shuttle and she picked us up taking us back to the marina. After getting back to the marina we stopped in to see Bruce and Bev for a bit. We are going to meet at 5:00 P.M. for the captain's meeting and docktails.

Yup it's happening. This is one of the stores that was closed on Monday but they had cute decorations outside.

The Mustard Seed was a cute store with lots of Christmas decorations displayed.
