Day #2: Mike and I were up at 5:00 A.M. we reviewed multiple weather apps to determine if we should leave for Presque Isle. Weather reports stating 30 mile an hour winds to begin around 5:00 P.M. so the two of us decided that it was safe to head to Presque Isle. "Parrot Bay" left Harrisville at 5:50 A.M. beautiful clear calm and warm morning. At 6:15 A.M. we passed Sturgeon Point Light. The BUGS came out with a vengeance. Mike, I and "Parrot Bay" were covered. Very annoying. At 9:00 A.M. the tug " Undaunted" with Barge "Pere Marquette 41" was coming out of Alpena crossing in front of "Parrot Bay" in Thunder Bay. At 9:10 A.M. we passed Thunder Bay Light. At 10:30 "Parrot Bay" passed Middle Island Light. At 11:45 the tug "Olive L. Moore" with barge "Menominee" was at Stoneport. "Parrot Bay" arrived at Presque Isle State Harbor at 12:30 P.M. Mike and I had one of the best crossings today that we have ever had from Harrisville with no wind and no waves. "Parrot Bay" traveled 54 miles total of 133 miles for the trip. About 45 minutes after "Parrot Bay" was secured in the slip a brief rain shower passed over washing the bugs off of the boat. After lunch Mike and I launched the dinghy heading for the beach. The water was a bit chilly but beautifully clear. The two of us decided to take a dinghy ride around the cove heading first by the old Presque Isle Lighthouse. As Mike and I were continuing our dinghy ride the winds picked up gusting to 18 miles per hour so we headed back to the boat. After stowing the dinghy Mike and I headed over to The Portage (we call it "The Mall" as it is the only store close to the marina). After dinner we walked to the new Presque Isle Lighthouse for a total of 3.01 miles. The winds are sustained at 20 miles per hour with gusts to 30 miles per hour. There are squall warnings out for Lake Huron. "Parrot Bay" will be staying in Presque Isle at least until Monday.
