Straits State Harbor in Mackinaw City, MI

Day #12: Up at 7:30 A.M. headed to the bakery for donuts for breakfast. Had a leisurely breakfast in bed. Very foggy this morning. Waiting for the fog to clear so that we can get out in the dinghy again today. We are starting to look ahead at Wednesday to leave Mackinaw City.  Our hope is to go to Harbor Springs.  I looked on the DNR website but Harbor Springs State Facility is not available so I called and they do not take reservations. When I called I was informed that they would take the information about our boat but that we needed to call the morning that we were headed to Harbor Springs and they would let us know if they had a slip for us. The girl let me know that at this time they are full. I left our boat information but will call the private marinas on Monday to see if we have any better luck booking at one of them. At noon Mike and I decided to take the dinghy out for a ride. We spent the whole day in the dinghy traveling a total of 12 miles. All day there was a fog bank that engulfed the whole Mackinaw bridge, St. Ignace and Mackinaw Island. Periodically throughout the day we would see the very top of the bridge towers but very soon after they would be gone again. Finally at 6 P.M. we were able to see the bridge, St. Ignace and Mackinaw Island. Other than the fog bank it was sunny and warm. Mike and I were able to FaceTime my Mom and Dad this evening it worked great. Mike and I are settling in for the evening for cribbage and reading.
Fog bank that persisted all day.

Fog bank that was so large that it engulfed the Mackinaw Bridge, St. Ignace and Mackinaw Island.

2:20 P.M. first time that we have seen the bridge towers all day.
Within minutes it was gone again.

4:30 P.M. finally seeing both towers but soon they were gone again until 6:00 P.M.
