Donovan's Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore, NY to the Welcome Center Free Wall at Waterford, NY

Day #356: Mike and I were up at 4:30 A.M. to prepare for departure. The engines were started at 5:10 A.M. and "Parrot Bay" was underway at 5:15 A.M. The temperatures were in the 60's and clear.  At 5:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed the freighter "Global Venus" at Port of Coeymans. At 5:40 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed under the Castleton-on-Hudson Bridges. "Parrot Bay" passed the navy ship "Slater" a museum ship in Albany, NY at 7:00 A.M. At 7:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed under the Troy-Menands Bridge. At 8:00 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was secure in the Troy Federal Lock (Lock #33 for the trip).  For the first time this lock used pipes that I put a dock line around to secure the boat in the lock. At 8:15 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was clear of the lock.  At 8:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" passed under the 112th Bridge. At 8:50 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was secure at the Waterford Wall after traveling 25 miles today (4,363.2 miles for the trip). We checked into the Waterford Visitor Center where there were two volunteer ladies who helped to get us some information about Waterford. The free wall has electricity, water, restrooms and showers. Mike worked on a navigation plan for the Erie Canal.  At 10:30 A.M. the two of us walked up to Don & Paul's Coffee Shop that had been suggested by the volunteer ladies. When we got into the restaurant there wasn't a place to sit.  There were three people sitting at a table for six and they offered for us to sit with them. The five of us talked about all that Waterford has to offer and we explained to the three about the loop. Mike and I headed to the post office after lunch and toured some of the historic town of Waterford. We walked to the Rite Aid purchasing a few items then we headed to the grocery store for a few items. As Mike and I were walking out of the grocery store we asked about a place to buy wine.  One of the grocery ladies said that it was a bit of a walk up a hill she pointed in the direction. Mike and I decided that they weren't going to make the walk as we were heading out in the parking lot we had a lady flag us down telling them that it is not safe to walk to the liquor store.  She offered to drive the two of us to the liquor store. Mike and I declined her offer but were very grateful they she had made the offer. The two of us headed back to the boat where we put their groceries away.  We took a walk to the lock E-2, which is the first lock on the Erie Canal and is only steps away from the Waterford wall. Mike and I were able to climb up on the lock walls looking into the lock. After looking at the lock Mike and I walked in the park next to the lock. We then headed back to the boat to have happy hour on the flying bridge. It was 87 degrees, light breeze and partly sunny. After happy hour Mike cooked brats on the grill and I made baked beans. After dinner it was time for blogging and Mike talked to Mom and Dad Boynton. The plan is for Mike and I to stay in Waterford until Wednesday as there is rain and thunderstorms forecast for Tuesday.
