Sunbury Crab Co., Midway, Georgia to Isle of Hope Marina, Savannah, Georgia

Day #298: Mike and I were up at 6:30 A.M. to prepare for departure. The weather was beautiful at departure sunny and 57 degrees. Engines were started at 7:20 A.M. At 7:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was away from the dock with the help of Bud and Sue from "Odyssey" who had to wait to be towed by TowBoat to Savannah for engine repairs. Mike timed "Parrot Bay's" departure so that the boat was at Hell's Gate at 10:30 A.M. on a slack but rising tide. At 7:45 A.M. TowBoat was inbound for "Odyssey". "Parrot Bay" was at Florida Passage at 9:45 A.M. At 10:30 A.M. "Parrot Bay" was at Hell's Gate (the water is very shallow so it should be crossed on a rising tide for more water and preferably no winds that could blow the water out) they met "Radiant" but both boats crossed at low slack and the lowest water that was seen was 4.3 feet. At 12:00 P.M. "Parrot Bay" was secure at Isle of Hope after a 37.7 mile day (3,130 miles total for the trip). The two talked to Patrick and Tina from "Sea Loons" the couples had not seen each other since Demopolis, AL.  At 12:45 P.M. we saw TowBoat towing "Odyssey" as they went by Isle of Hope. Mike and I quickly ate a quick lunch and I called for an Uber ride to Old Savannah Tours. We were dropped off at 1:45 P.M. and started our tour of Savannah. Mike and I ended our tour heading to City Market where we bought cookies at Byrd's. The two of us decided to have an early dinner at Café at City Market we both had sandwiches. The two of us took a Uber back to the marina. Roger from "Miss Utah" stopped by the "Parrot Bay" we hadn't seen Roger since Columbus, Mississippi. Mike and I worked on boat jobs before sitting down for blogging, grocery list development, future navigation planning and reading.

The Waving Girl Statue.  For 44 years Florence Martus lived on nearby Elba Island with her brother, the lighthouse keeper, and no ship arrived for Savannah or departed from 1887 to 1931 without her waving a handkerchief by day or a lantern by night. Throughout the years the vessels in return watched for and saluted this quiet little woman. Few people ever met her yet she became the source of romantic legends when the story of her faithful greetings was told in ports all over the world.

Haitian Monument which pays tribute to the group of Haitian soldiers who fought for American Independence during the Siege of Savannah in 1779. This monument demonstrate the "Les Chasseurs-Volontaires de Saint-Domingue," or Freedom Fighters.
